![]() ![]() In fact, there is a play similar to that described below (Corpus Christi, by Terrence McNally) but to the best of my knowledge (or that of Snopes’ Barbara Mikkelson), no-one has ever started production of a film based on it, though Barbara managed to find a reference to an obscure film called “Him” made in 1974 with a vaguely similar theme.īut what’s so fascinating about a hoax that’s been circulated since 1984, and seen on the Internet since at least 2000? The fact that it has a couple of built-in tweaks to make it more difficult for hard-pressed administrators and others to apply spam/chainmail filtering and other remedial action. Just to make it clear from the start, this is a known hoax (or at the very least a misunderstanding that has been adapted as a hoax: see ). I was forwarded a fascinating chain letter by Bill B. Likewise, the 2006 DVD release entitled Corpus Christi is simply a documentary about the historical figure of Jesus, not a film version of the similarly titled play.’ ‘… is often mistakenly cited as a film version of the play Corpus Christi, but it is not it’s a documentary about the controversy surrounding one particular troupe’s production of the play, not a movie version of the play itself. As regards the ‘Playing with Redemption’ film, Snopes says: If the hoax contained any nugget of truth at all, it was probably referring to the obscure 1974 film ‘Him’ as mentioned below. In any case, I don’t see how it can be the original of a hoax that seems to have been around since 1984 (if not earlier). I do notice, though that t he Snopes article (as updated in 2017) calls it a 2010 release – I’ve contacted them about that, but so far have only received a boilerplate response. According to The Georgia Voice, it was previewed at the Atlanta film festival in 2011, but the world premiere, according to other sources including Huffington Post and Rotten Tomatoes, was in San Francisco in April 2012. I wasn’t aware of it at the time my articles were written, but that’s unsurprising since according to IMDB it was released a couple of years after this article. He/she is referring to this article on IMDB: Corpus Christi: Playing with Redemption (2012) At around the same time that I wrote this article in 2010, I wrote a briefer article on another site which has just attracted this comment: ![]()
